Log Homes

A log home or log house is a house typically made from logs. Handcrafted log homes have been built for centuries in Scandinavia, America and other areas around the world. Until recently, they were not very common in Ireland but during the past decade we have seen their number grow and they are getting more popular.

There are two types of making Log homes, Handcrafted and milled, a handcrafted log home is typically made of logs that have been peeled and are unchanged from their original natural appearance when they were trees.

A milled log home is one constructed of logs that have run through a manufacturing process which removes any natural imperfections of the log and convert them into timbers that are perfect in size and appearance.

Log homes come in different designs, shapes and forms as well as different types of timbers and they can be very comfortable and energy efficient.

You can buy a predesigned home or if you wish, you can come up with your own design and the manufacturers would do it for you.

The costs for a log home vary depending on the design but you could be looking at anything between 50 to 100 Euro’s per sq. Ft.

As far as planning permissions, the same rules apply to log homes as the other types of construction.
